Advocate Health Care
December 1, 2009
After an extensive selection process, Advocate Health Care selects Endur ID Wristband products for implementation across the entire Advocate Health Care System.
As of this release, all seven facilities have gone "live". Implentations have been trouble free with both the the associates and the patients viewing the new Endur ID bands as an enhancement to patient safety.
"The associates are very satisfied with the new bands. We are using them on all inpatients and outpatients. When we compare what we were trying to read before to what we have on the Endur ID wristbands, the improvement is amazing. The bands have scanned with 100% consistency for our glucometers since we went live at all four sites. The patients have also commented that they appreciate the focus on their safety"

Success Story
July 31st, 2009
East Tennesse Children's Hospital is a 152 bed pediatric medical center, located in Knoxville, TN.
"We began using Endur ID armbands and the BioPoint PI software in May 2009 as our Respiratory Department began electronic medication administration. Over the next three months we began the same process in all our inpatient nursing departments. We considered quality armbands essential to the early success of this project. Since we were expecting caregivers to scan the patient armband with every medication administration we wanted to provide them the best possible armband for scanning.
We are proud to say that in the three months since implementation our patient armbands have been scanned in over 96% of medication administrations - almost 60,000 doses in that time.
I attribute this to a few things. First, we were able to place multiple small, two-dimensional barcodes all over the armband without sacrificing barcode quality. With our patient population the armband curvature made one-dimensional barcodes almost impossible to use with consistent success. Second, the quality of the armband material itself allowed us to print these small barcodes on laser jet printers - with barcode quality equivalent to what thermal printers produce and without needing a laminate overlay to prevent smudging.
From my perspective this was the most successful aspect of the entire project. Because we have had no issues with the armband scanning we were able to respond much more quickly to other procedural issues related to the project overall."

New Implementation
June 20, 2009
"Our deployment of the Endur ID / Bio-Optronics system was completely trouble free. The system is extemely easy to use. The support given by Endur ID and Bio-Optronics during implemetation was outstanding."

Information Systems Manager
Shepherd Center, a 100 bed catastophic care hospital in Atlanta, GA has installed and deployed the Endur ID Patient Identification solution powered by the Bio-Point PI Patient Identification Software from Bio-Optronics of Rochester, NY
The new Patient ID System has been implemented in anticipation of upcoming Bar Code Medication Management projects. Each wristband displays the patient's demographic information, barcode and will soon have color coded alerts and warnings to assist the primary caregiver. Shepherd Center is using the Endur ID Secure Soft wristband which is designed to be soft and easy to wear.
Patient ID in a Box
The Joint Commission (JACHO) lists as it's 1st Patient Safety goal the need to use at least two identifiers to ensure treatment of the correct patient. This goal is typically met using a patient wristband printed or labeled with at least two identifiers. In addition to the two primary identifiers the need to print barcodes for bedside medication management, color coded alert warnings and color photos may exist for many organizations.
While a fully integrated patient identification system is ideal, many smaller facilities (10-100 beds) such as small hospitals, surgery centers, mental health facilities and long term care struggle to produce robust and accurate patient identification without the purchase and implementation of a fully integrated system.
Endur ID offers a solution - Patient ID in a Box. This is a complete system with all the hardware, software and formatting delivered configured and ready for your patient data. Just unpack the system, plug it in and start entering you patient data. The system will produce wristbands featuring patient demographics, color photo, barcodes and color coded alert warnings. Three versions are available, Mental Health, Long Term Care and a General version. Each is formatted to use the appropriate Endur ID wristband media for the intended application. The system will maintain a database and provide the ability to reprint bands, adjust data and produce reports.
Patient ID in a Box is easy to use, requires little training and will not require IT resources to deploy.
The system includes a powerful computer in a keyboard, monitor, webcam, color laser printer, software and enough wristband media for 300 patients.
Color Coded Bands
In response to confusion caused by the lack of standards in color coding leading to potential risks to patients, State Hospital Associations across the US are working to establish standards for color coded wristbands. The states working together have developed consistent standards, adopted by over 18 states as of this release and it is expected to be adopted by all 50 states soon.
The standards are
Allergy - Red
Fall Risk - Yellow
DNR - Purple
Latex Allergy - Green
Restricted Extremity - Pink
Endur ID, a long time proponent of color coding has been offering systems to add these and other alerts to the primary band using desktop color laser printers. While Endur ID offers solutions that incorporate color coding onto the primary identification band we have recognized the immediate need of many healthcare facilities to meet the new color coding standards without a complete replacement of ther patient identification system.
To meet these standards, Endur ID now offers a complete set of Color Coded Alert Bands, these are supplied ready to use and are applied with a simple adhesive closure, requiring no clasps or clips. The bands are pre-printed in the appropriate color and feature large and easily read text denoting the risk. The bands are designed to be durable, comfortable and easy to use.
Endur ID is pleased to offer these as a companion product to their complete line of patient identification products.
Long Term Bands
Endur ID, of Lawrence, MA announces the addition of the Endur ID Long Term LT10-2-LA to the product offerings suitable for laser printers. The Endur ID Long Term has been designed for use in long term settings to bring patient identification to new levels of accuracy, flexibility and ease of use. Printed on standard b&w or color laser printers, the Endur ID Long Term bands are ready to use after printing - no laminates, clips or assembly. The wristband's material and construction is tough and able to withstand the rigors of a hospital environment, including showers, alcohol wipes and other agents directly from the printer without further protection.
The Endur ID Long Term is designed to be easier to wear, at only 1/2 inch width these bands are comfortable for long term use.
Endur ID wristbands are designed specifically to meet and exeed all current Joint Committee on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) recommendations. A bar-coded patient wristband is the foundation upon which all barcode medication systems and patient tracking systems are based.
Many methods are used to apply barcodes to wristbands; however very few allow much other information to be included. Fewer still are wristbands that allow direct color printing or color photographs at high resolution. In addition to patient identifiers, the bands can also contain other types of healthcare information important at bedside, such as doctor name, patient-specific warnings and color-coding.
Endur ID's wristbands can be easily adapted into most current patient identification systems without major investment. The only requirement is the ability to format patient information and print to a desktop laser printer.
